Fresh The Movie

"We pay three times for our food:
at the register, with our
health care, and
via agricultural subsidies"
- Michael Pollan, Fresh The Movie

  • How to eat healthy on a budget
  • How to improve your purchase decisions
  • Strategies for growing your own food on less land and
  • The real cost of producing conventional foods

"This film is a must-watch! It will help you understand where your food comes from,
the dangers of conventional agriculture and shows you how to
choose local, healthy and sustainable options."

- James Colquhoun - Producer, 'Food Matters'

About The Film

FRESH is more than a film; it is a reflection of a rising movement of people and communities who are re-inventing our food system. FRESH celebrates the food architects who offer a practical vision of a new food paradigm and consumer access to it. Encouraging individuals to take matters into their own hands, FRESH is a guide that empowers people to take an array of actions as energetic as planting urban gardens and creating warm composts from food waste, and as simple as buying locally-grown products and preserving seasonal produce to eat later in the year.

Throughout the film, we encounter the most inspiring people, ideas, and initiatives happening around the country right now. At the Growing Power urban farm in Milwaukee, Will Allen is turning three acres of industrial wasteland into a mecca of nutrition for his neighborhood. In Kansas City, we witness David Ball revitalize his community, turning the modern concept of the Supermarket on its head by stocking his stores with produce from a cooperative of local farmers. And, we journey to Joel Salatin’s farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley to witness his methods for closing the nutrient cycle, allowing cows, chickens, pigs and natural grasses to flourish and produce without ever an ounce of chemical fertilizer or industrial animal feed.

FRESH tells the stories of 'real people' rediscovering 'real food'. FRESH
represents a powerful way for you to educate yourself and your community on living a healthy, local and sustainable life through food.

"While “Food, Inc.” raised awareness about the consequences of consolidation, “Fresh” advances the argument by talking about solutions."
- San Francisco Chronicle

Everyone should be able to buy good fresh food without worrying about what is put on the crop or in the soil that could harm us, our children or their future.......

Thank you, thank you, thank you for producing these amazing films. Wow... I continue to be inspired by them!

I just wanted to make sure I was clear on this...you send me an email, claiming to obtain info on how to eat healthy, whole foods for cheaper, yet the charge to watch the film is $30??? How about a streaming option that one could pay $2.99 for, or something
not so rediculous. It seems, on the usrface anyway, that you guys are a little more interested in making money than spreading the word...shame

I am so excited you have produced this information and are passionate about sending out the message. I support and agree with you whole heartedly and will do my best to make a difference.

@Chris...you can rent Food Matters from Netflix if you're interested in eating better. But if you're really interested in spreading the word, it makes sense to buy the movie and share it with others. We should support the efforts of these folks who are
trying to get the truth out there. They're spending their time and money doing so! I'm sure this will also be available on Netflix if we start requesting it.

This is great stuff! We grow as much of our own organic food as possible on our small urban lot and community garden plot. It's our "health insurance." Would love to see the film but with two unemployed adults in the house it is our of our price range.

I agree Chris it is expensive but I understand Stevens point of view. Anyhow you can do what I did and check it out from the library and then spread the word....great film by the way

I love all of their movies. I can not thank you enough for all the information you have brought and for all the knowledge you have given me. It is empowering to know that you can make better choices for your children. For those complaining about the price
if you go to Amazon they have it for $2.99 to stream online or $3.99 if you want to stream from iTunes. I completely understand the price. These people put in their time and their dedication. They are not being rewarded but allowed funds to continue their
studies and continuing bringing us good films. Thank you once again. Great movies and great productions and I THANK YOU for your time and dedication.

Just watched the documentary tonight from Netflix. What a fantastic piece of work. Has given me a new appreciation to the dedication and hard work that goes into family and organic farming. I have been trying to be more conscious of my choices when I shop.
I will pay more for food grown this way. Not only for the sake of my family's health but for the future of our land and resources. I'm telling everyone I know to watch this.
